Baby logs without the busywork

How to fix a missed or incorrect entry in a baby log

Add a missed event with its actual time. Edit or delete an incorrect entry, but leave unknown times and amounts unknown instead of guessing.

A feed that happened at 1:40 a.m. should not appear at 7:15 a.m. simply because that is when you remembered it. Add the missed entry with its actual time. If the entry already exists, correct its time or details. Delete an accidental duplicate or an entry with the wrong action, then add the right one. Do not fill an unknown time, duration, or amount with a precise guess.

Work out what needs fixing

The right correction depends on what happened:

  • the event is missing from the history;
  • the event is there, but its time or details are wrong;
  • the same event appears twice;
  • the wrong action was selected, such as sleep instead of feeding.

Do not add a second entry just to explain the first one. That leaves two events in the history and makes the other parent decide which one is real.

Add a missed event with the time you know

Record only what you remember. If a feed started at 1:40 a.m. and ended at 2:05 a.m., add the start first, then the end with those times. A one-off event, such as a diaper or nappy change, needs one entry with the actual time.

If you remember the order but not the minutes, do not pick a time at random. Leave the gap or add a short note to a nearby event when that context matters. An entry marked 3:00 a.m. is not accurate simply because the app stores it to the minute.

Sometimes only the end of a timer is missing. Add it manually if you know when the session ended. If you stopped the timer late, edit the saved end time instead of creating another end entry.

Edit the original entry when you can

Find the event in the history and read the entries around it. That small check helps you avoid changing the wrong feed on a busy night.

You can correct the date, time, feeding method, breast side, measured amount, or note on an existing entry. The action on a saved entry cannot be changed. If you selected sleep instead of feeding, delete the incorrect entry and add the right action.

Read the short sequence again after saving. A feeding or sleep session should start before it ends. A useful log should also reject a second start while the first session is open, or an end with no matching start.

Remove a duplicate only when it is a duplicate

Duplicates happen when both parents record the same event or somebody taps a quick action twice. Compare the time, action, and details. If both entries describe the same event, keep the more accurate one and delete the other.

Do not merge separate events just because they happened close together. Two feeds with a short break may still be two real feeds. Delete an entry only when you are confident it repeats another one.

If you are deciding which details belong in each entry, read what to record after a feed or diaper change. A simple shared rule means fewer corrections later.

How Closeby helps

In Closeby, you can undo an incorrect quick action straight away. Use the Manual button to choose an action and a past time for a missed event. Open an existing entry from recent events or the full history to correct its time and details, or delete it.

After iCloud sync, your partner sees the corrected shared history. A deleted entry stays out of the visible log and exports. Closeby checks the order of timer starts and ends, but it cannot recover a time or amount that nobody recorded.

A baby log stores facts. It does not assess feeding, sleep, or a baby's health. If the missing entry concerns medicine or a health question, do not reconstruct the dose or time from a guess. Ask a qualified clinician what to do next.

Review the latest events and fix only the errors you can confirm. An honest gap is better than an exact entry invented the next morning.
